Getting Started with Sharemy: Your Ultimate Guide to Easy File Sharing
Welcome to Sharemy! We’ve created a simple and secure way to transfer files directly from your browser, with no extra software required. This guide will walk you through every step, from setting up your profile to sending and receiving files seamlessly.
Step 1: Create Your User Profile
Before you can start sharing, you’ll need a username. This helps others in the room identify you.
- You will be asked to create a username before you can create or join a room.
- For your security and to comply with our policies, there is a mandatory checkbox you must agree to for our Terms & Conditions and essential cookies. The continue button will be disabled until you agree.
- Once your profile is set up, you can click the user icon to edit your username and even add a profile photo. If you don’t upload a photo, a default one will be displayed for you.
Step 2: How to Send Files
As the sender, your job is to create a secure, temporary space for the transfer.
- Create a Room: From the home screen, select the option to create a room. You will be sent directly into your new, private room.
- Share the Room ID: Your room will have a unique 6-digit ID. You need to share this ID with the person you want to send files to.
- Approve the Receiver: When the other user tries to join your room, you will see a dialog box on your screen. You must allow their request to let them into the room. A room is limited to a total of 5 users.
- Choose and Send Files: Now you can choose the files you wish to share. You can select multiple files at once, and their names will be displayed. Finally, select the receiver’s device from the list of available users and click share.
Step 3: How to Receive Files
If you are receiving files, the process is just as simple and secure.
- Join a Room: Get the 6-digit Room ID from the sender and use it to join their room. You will have to wait for the sender (the host) to approve your request to join.
- Accept the Incoming Files: Once the sender initiates the transfer, a dialog box will appear on your screen to either allow or deny the incoming files. This ensures you never receive files you weren’t expecting.
- Download Your Files: After the transfer is complete, a download button will appear beside the name of each file you’ve received. The download is not automatic; you have full control over what you save to your device.
Key Features and Important Notes
- Room Security: When the person who created the room (the host) exits, the room is automatically destroyed, ensuring your session remains private.
- Navigation: You can use the application's logo as a home button and use the dedicated back button to move to the previous screen.
- Connection Tips: For the best experience, file sharing works most seamlessly when both the sender and receiver are on the same network. While mobile-to-PC transfers work fine over Wi-Fi and mobile internet, sharing large files via a mobile network can be unstable.
